My name is Alan Frankland, I am a Consultant Counselling Psychologist, Chartered by the BPS and Registered by HPC. APSI in Nottingham (and APSILON - SE9) are small unpretentious Consultancy and Therapy organisations providing independent Applied Psychological Services including individual therapy, works stress management, couples counselling and supervision for therapist colleagues.

With more than 30 years experience as a therapist I have a good working knowledge of most of the issues that individuals or couples may raise, covering:

• Anxiety and Stress
• Depression
• Difficulties at work
• The lasting effects of of childhood issues especially Loss and Abuse
• Relationship difficulties
• Problems of Self-Management and Self-Esteem (including Eating Disorders)
• General unhappiness - adjustment to what life throws at us and loss of direction and identity
  

I am known as a writer and teacher in the Person-Centred tradition and my approach to clients and their difficulties is largely based on developing a relationship which allows us to discuss how individuals see the issues that are troubling them and to discover ways to build on their strengths and create the changes they want in their lives. As a Counselling Psychologist I like to consider the evidence about effectiveness in helping encounters, so as well as working with these approaches which are led by the individuals needs and perceptions I recognise that it is sometimes appropriate to work more strategically with thoughts and behaviour alongside the discursive relationship in what is becoming knowen as Cognitive Relational Therapy.

Referral: Individual and Couples
If you are struggling with personal issues, or difficulties as a couple, and would like to consider working on them with me I would welcome an initial (fixed fee - £50) meeting to see whether what APSI can offer is right for you. I am also happy to have referrals from medical colleagues and occupational health departments, EAP providers and insurance and legal services.

I provide a professional yet personal service which is extremely confidential and tailored to each individual''s needs.Meetings are usually take place most weeks and I am happy to work short-term (6 to 12 sessions) or longer term (10 to 20) or in an ongoing long-term relationship which might last for a few years. I have a sliding scale basis for fees after the first session ranging from £35 to £65 which will be discussed at the first meeting (or on the ''phone when you make an initial appointment if you prefer).Occasionally it is possible to arrange a lower ''pro bono'' rate for really long term work and for trainees needing to complete a significant block of hours to meet training requirements.

I am an experienced trainer and supervisor and enjoy doing Supervision with both experienced colleagues and trainee and new colleagues (fees in the range identified above).
